7 Things You Should Be Doing While Waiting on the Lord

Waiting on the Lord can be a difficult and painful experience. We may feel like we are lost, not knowing what the future holds. 

But in the book of Lamentations, it is clear that the Lord is good to those who wait for him and the soul seeking him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. (Lam 3:25-26)

So even though waiting can be tough, we hold on to his promises to us as we earnestly go through this season. 

Here are seven things you can do while you wait on the Lord:

1. Pray and Ask for Guidance

Pray and ask the Lord for guidance on what He wants you to do. Pray that He would reveal Himself to you and show you the path that He wants you to take. Ask Him for strength and wisdom as you wait on His timing.

2. Trust God

The most important thing you can do while waiting for the Lord is to trust Him. This may be difficult, especially if you don’t know what He is doing or why He is doing it. But remember that God is good, and His plans for you are always good (Jeremiah 29:11). Trusting in Him will help to ease your anxiousness and give you peace. 

3. Seek Comfort in God’s Word

Another thing you can do while you wait on the Lord is to seek comfort in His Word. The Bible is full of promises from God that He will never leave us or forsake us (Deut 31:6). When we are feeling lost or alone, we can go to His Word and be reminded that He is always with us. 

4. Allow God to Work in Your Life

While you wait on the Lord, allowing Him to work in your life is essential. This may mean making some changes in your life based on what He reveals to you during this season of waiting. It could also mean being patient as you wait for His timing instead of trying to force things into place yourself. Whatever it looks like for you, allow God free reign over your life while you wait for Him.

5. Be Patient 

Patience is a virtue and one that is essential when waiting on the Lord. This doesn't mean that you won't be anxious or eager for what He has in store, but it does mean trusting that He knows best and His timing is perfect. Be patient as you wait, knowing that God will come through in His perfect way and in His perfect time.

6. Serve Others in Love

Another thing you can do while waiting for the Lord is serve others in love. This could mean volunteering your time at a local church or nonprofit organization, helping a neighbor in need, or simply being a friend to someone who needs one. Whatever it looks like, serving others is a great way to show the love of Christ and make the most of your time while you wait on God's plan for your life.

7. Seek Out Community

Another thing you can do while waiting on the Lord is to seek out community. Find other people walking with the Lord who can encourage and support you in your faith journey. Surround yourself with people who will speak truth into your life and help hold you accountable. 

Community is so important as we walk with Christ. It’s a place where we can be honest about our struggles, learn from others, and find encouragement when we need it most. Don’t try to go through this season alone – reach out to others for support.

God’s timing is perfect, and though we may not always understand His ways, we can trust that He knows what He is doing. His plans for our lives are always good, according to his promises and purpose.
